Appearance
first impressions Tsumugi, quite honestly, is rather plain, especially if you put him next to some of the more... lively members of Mankai Company. He's gentle, polite, and observant - the quietly passionate type that will explode with vitality if the subject is acting.clothes Outside of costumes, Tsumugi dresses simply, leaning toward minimally patterned clothes in shades of blue with (if appropriate for the season) a brown sweater or coat.

march 2022 ❄ canon update
A while later, Winter Troupe puts on its sixth play, "Risky Game" with leads Hisoka and Azuma. In the days leading up to the play, Hisoka struggles to reconcile with his past. As the Troupe's leader and his friend, Tsumugi supports him in his quiet, gentle way: namely giving advice when approached, and also flowers. Partway through the show's run, Winter Troupe makes a trip to a cliff by the ocean, and Hisoka opens up about his family for the first time. With their bonds renewed, they finish the show's run with no complications, and go to a market to celebrate.
More time passes, and out of the blue, Mankai Company receives an Act-Off challenge from God Troupe. Looking for redemption after their loss against Winter Troupe in Mankai's first year, God Troupe demands that Tsumugi be cast as the lead in their new play. Recognizing Kamikizaka's words still haunt him, despite all his accomplishments over the past few years with Mankai, and how much he wants Kamikizaka to recognize him as an actor, Tsumugi asks that they accept the challenge. The rest of the Company agrees, and the cast is formed: Taichi and him as co-leads, and Tasuku, Guy, Omi, and Azami filling out the rest of the cast.
With the theme of "devils", Tsuzuru discusses with Tsumugi what kind of character he'd like written for him, to which he requests something completely unlike anything he's ever been cast in before. As he puts it, "How far can I act if I "kill" myself and analyze every single detail of my character? I want to see that limit for myself." and "as an actor, I take delight in being able to play a role whose life is completely different from mine."
During rehearsals, Tsumugi wholeheartedly descends into role study for his character, Lucifer. He seeks guidance from Homare, Hisoka, and Azuma for different aspects of his portrayal: passion with Homare, loneliness with Hisoka, and unrequited love with Azuma. And he puts into words his own unrequited love for acting: "No matter how many times I stood on the stage, I still want to go up again. Even when I think that I’ve done it, I believe I can do more. That’s the kind of attachment I have. I think my feelings towards theater are like an eternal unrequited love. I know it’s sad to call it unrequited, but… perhaps, I will also love such pain that is forever unquenchable."
There's a couple attempts at meddling before the day of the Act-Off - namely, the plagarism of Tsuzuru's script, and the ambush that would've ended much worse for Tsumugi and Taichi if Banri and Juza hadn't been there - but Kamikizaka sincerely apologizes for what transpired, and promises to get to the bottom of it. And after Mankai wins the Act-Off 605 to 361, Kamikizaka addresses Tsumugi directly, taking back what he said about him not having what it takes to be an actor. In turn, Tsumugi is able to tell Kamikizaka that he has no regrets over the path he took - he may have been hurt, and strayed from acting, but that experience helped him find Mankai Company and become the actor he is today.
All around, amends are made, and bridges are mended - and also it's revealed that Kamikizaka was one of Mankai's original members. The last thing Tsumugi will remember is Kamikizaka saying he has something to tell Izumi, and her inviting him back to the theater to discuss that matter, as well as ask about her father.
tl;dr summary: Over the span of about a year, Tsumugi is cast in three more Mankai Company plays: "A Two-Faced Teacher", "Risky Game", and "Stray Devil Blues". Through performing his role of Lucifer in "Stray Devil Blues", Tsumugi overcomes his past and casts aside the last of his doubts and insecurities born from Kamikizaka's critique years ago.
