app excerpt ❄ canon information

  • During elementary school, Tsumugi acts on stage for the first time, and falls in love with acting and pursues it wholeheartedly with his childhood friend Tasuku Takato.
  • After graduating university, Tsumugi and Tasuku audition to join God Troupe. However, only Tasuku passes the audition, and Reni Kamikizaka shatters Tsumugi's confidence with harsh critique. As a result, Tsumugi quits theater, forming a rift between him and Tasuku.
  • Time passes, and Tsumugi decides to re-enter the world of theater by joining Mankai Company's Winter Troupe. He is joined by Tasuku Takato, Azuma Yukishiro, Homare Arisugawa, and Hisoka Mikage. When no one else steps up, he tentatively agrees to be the leader of Winter Troupe.
  • God Troupe/God-za publicly challenges Mankai Company to an Act-Off with high stakes: win and take home all the proceeds from the show, but lose and be forced to disband immediately. Mankai is given a week to make a decision and as Winter Troupe's leader, the pressure is especially immense for Tsumugi.
  • Tsumugi and Tasuku's rift deepens, resulting in the intervention from one of Mankai Company's urban legends, the Torment Doll. The doll forces the pair to relive the same day "Groundhog Day" style until their bond is mended.
  • Winter Troupe's bonds continue growing (but not without more urban legend intervention), and their first runs of "Sympathy for the Angel" go smoothly.
  • Before the second to last show, Tsumugi encounters Kamikizaka, prompting him to give a performance on stage he immediately regrets. He spirals mentally, but Tasuku and the rest of Winter Troupe give him confidence and remind him of what's truly important.
  • Mankai beats God Troupe by a small margin, and their remaining debt is wiped out.
  • Winter Troupe puts on their 2nd and 3rd shows, "My Master's Mesmerized by Mystery" and "Nocturnality", with Tsumugi cast in minor but nuanced roles. The bonds within the troupe grow with each successful run as they support each other through their struggles, with Tsumugi acting as a pillar of gentle guidance and advice. Their bond becomes "something that can't be put into words", a relationship built upon "supporting each other when [their] burdens become too heavy to bear on [their] own".
  • Chikage Utsuki joins Spring Troupe, and Tsumugi and the rest of Winter Troupe support Hisoka as he's forced to face his forgotten past.
  • Through a series of circumstances, Guy, Citron's attendant from Zafra, joins Winter Troupe and is the lead role for "Le Fantome de l'Opera", alongside Tsumugi. Winter Troupe helps their newest member bloom on stage and regain the humanity he once lost. (They also get to perform abroad in Zafra, which is pretty neat.)
  • Winter Troupe puts on their 5th show, "Die by the Sword". In this, it's finally revealed to Tasuku that despite the tension between them at the time, Tsumugi went to see his first lead role in a God Troupe play and gave him thorough constructive criticism that he's kept to this day.

Additional note: the next play put on after "Die by the Sword" is "A Two-Faced Teacher", Mankai's first mixed troupe play with Tsumugi as one of the supporting characters. There isn't any in game explanation as to why it was decided to do a mixed troupe play before going on to each troupe's 6th show, or for the casting choices. At the time I'm writing this (August 2021), "A Two-Faced Teacher" is too recent of a canon point to app from, thus my decision to take him from after "Die By The Sword". But I will also play him as though the discussion of what the next play will be has not occurred, as I have no canon to draw upon for that.
